PANDEMICALLY SPEAKING, Hello? Hello? Hello? Hello?

How can you tell that you've been working in an empty church for a while, now?

When the ice machine drops ice, I can hear the kitchen echo from the front desk, and I don't jump anymore.

I do, however, jump when the phone rings.

Sometimes, when I answer, I just say "Hello", then fast back peddle to "Hayes Barton UMC.....," but I don't tag on, "This is Melanie", because Who the heck ELSE would it be? (smiling face goes here)

When I go to the ladies' room, the fragrance wisper, sneezes like an old fart who's got a ghastly gasp going on. I expect to find that thing flat on its back one day.

I'm not afraid of the church ghost anymore. In fact, I'm enjoying his company daily as he strolls by the front desk and disappears.

Much of the building has the fire doors closed, as we only need a small space to function anymore. It's nice to have that happen without the Hideous Screeching and Screaming that accompanies  the usual fire alarm tests.

I don't lock myself out nearly as much as I did a month ago, when I kept forgetting the doors are locked ALL the time.

The video camera screen that shows the downstairs back door area has shadows that move in it all day long, and I've started naming them.. Gilbert and Smooch. No, I don't know why. I wondered if maybe some paranormal presence was getting into my head, but that's just silly. There's so much other S*** going on in there, there's no room for anything else.

Every day is different here, and everywhere else. That's just how it goes right now, and I am thankful for the weather and readers who support this blabber.
